Our advisors hold credentials such as Certified Financial Planner, Fully Life Licensed, Securities Licensed and their bachelor degree. Our insurance brokers hold the highest level of CAIB providing all insurance services. We are members of the Saskatchewan Landlord Association to keep our rental knowledge current.

Jim Onstad
Managing Director/Financial Advisor
Jim Onstad is Weyburn Security’s Managing-Director since 2000 having more than 35 years of experience working in the business as a financial advisor and manager. Through listening and understanding his client’s individual financial needs, Jim has built strong, long-lasting client relationships.
Jim obtained his degree in Management from the University of Denver’s business school. Over the years he has touched all aspects of Weyburn Security’s business including financial advising, insurance sales, accounting, and mineral management. He also has his certificate in financial planning, investment funds course, securities course, and is a Notary Public.
Jim has been on several boards including Weyburn Housing, Saskatchewan Games Council, Weyburn Red Wings, Weyburn Red Wings Alumni, and Weyburn Regional Economic Development.
Outside of finance, Jim is a sports enthusiast staying active with biking, golf, gym membership and spending time with his family. He has coached many minor hockey and minor baseball teams over the years and assisted with the high school track meets.

Mike Onstad, CFP
Financial Advisor/Assistant Manager
With over a decade of experience in finance, Mike Onstad is a distinguished professional who excels in navigating the complexities of the financial world. As a Certified Financial Planner, Assistant Manager, and Board Member of Weyburn Security, Mike brings a wealth of knowledge and a personal touch to every client relationship. He’s not just about numbers—he’s dedicated to understanding your unique financial story and crafting a personalized plan that truly fits your needs. With Mike, it's all about building lasting connections and securing a brighter financial future for you and your family.
Mike obtained his Finance degree from the University of Regina. He then achieved the nationally recognized Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation through FP Canada. He also holds his securities license, mutual funds license and Full Life Insurance License Qualification Program (LLQP). He works in all aspects of the business including financial advising, residential rentals, mineral/farm management and more.
Outside of work Mike plays senior baseball for the Weyburn Iron Pigs and enjoys many sports including hockey, golf, and volleyball. Together with his wife Ricki, they have one son and one daughter. They enjoy being on the water at the cabin and snowmobiling in the winter.

Gwen Paterson, CPA/CA
Accountant
Gwen has worked at Weyburn Security for almost thirty years as the accountant. She has enjoyed watching the company grow and diversify to what it is today. She enjoys working with the wonderful staff everyday. She obtained her CPA designation, which has come in handy with the interesting projects that Weyburn Security is involved in. She was born and raised in the wonderful city of Weyburn and her husband Larry and two sons and families live here also. She enjoys going to the gym, travelling, and relaxing at our lake cabin.
Jennifer Benning
Licensed Assistant
Jennifer has been with Weyburn Security Company since 2009 and in the investment industry for 22 years. She is a licensed assistant who works primarily in the investment division of Weyburn Security and has developed many great relationships with our clients over the years. She enjoys that her days are always different and challenging in a constantly changing investment world.
Outside of the office, Jennifer enjoys spending time at her family farm, cooking and doing competition barbeque with her husband Henry and their team Smooth Smokin’.
Marie Verhaeghe
Receptionist/Insurance Broker
Marie has been with Weyburn Security since 2000. Marie enjoys that the company is very diversified as it makes each day unique and never the same.
She started as a receptionist, then in November of 2002 she acquired her broker’s license. Her biggest goal and achievement have been to evaluate our customers needs and to provide high level customer service while developing some lifelong friendships.
Marie’s hobbies include gardening, decorating and spending time with family.
Fran Birrell
Insurance Broker/Office Administration
Fran began working for Weirs Travel and Insurance business in 1978. The insurance business was eventually purchased by Weyburn Security and the travel business was purchased by CAA Travel. She continued to work in the travel industry until May of 1986 at which time she started working for Weyburn Security as an administrative assistant. In 1995 she obtained her general insurance license. In addition to selling insurance, she is an investment assistant to the financial advisors. She also holds her Notary Public designation.
Outside of work Fran enjoys spending time with her family and enjoys watching all of her grandkids and their activities. One of her favourite things is spending time outside in her yard.
Rhonda Logel
Insurance Broker
Rhonda takes pride in being part of the value-added service that Weyburn Security has provided the people of Weyburn and southern Saskatchewan.
In her 40 plus years she has been working with Weyburn Security, her goal has always been to continuously raise her standards of service and education in order to successfully meet the needs of our clients. Rhonda's education background includes: licensed for all classes of insurance except life, completion of the Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker designation with honours, completion of the Canadian Securities course, and completed courses within the Certified Financial Planning designation.
Rhonda is proud to make the community of Weyburn her home where she spends time with family and friends.
Desiree Rainey
Admin – Mineral/Land/Investment/Urban Rentals
Desiree has been with Weyburn Security for 25 years, starting immediately after receiving her Office Administration diploma from Southeast College in 1997.
She began as the real estate assistant and over the years, has branched out into urban rentals, GIC investment administration, and mineral management. She is also the corporate secretary for the company. In fact, she often says that what she loves the most about her job (aside from the people she works with) is that Weyburn Security is so diverse!
Outside of the office, Desiree loves spending time with her children who both live in Calgary or relaxing at the lake on weekends. She has also volunteered with Special Olympics.
Curtis Robertson
Maintenance Supervisor
Curtis joined Weyburn Security in 2022 and took over the role as maintenance supervisor. Curtis oversees and takes care of our residential and commercial properties in Weyburn and Regina. He is the first call when any issues arise across our properties.
Curtis worked in the carpentry industry for many years prior to joining Weyburn Security. Curtis volunteers his time to coach volleyball for the mens team in Yellow Grass. Outside of work he enjoys playing volleyball, badminton, going ATV'ing and snowmobiling. Curtis and his wife Marci enjoy spending time with their 2 kids and 2 dogs.
